There is so much to remember.
To help give opportunities to use and change the tense of a long list of words I decided to make a fun game that I have just finished playing with my student and he loved it!
Firstly, I found a long list of irregular verbs on the internet. Then I cut a stack of cards and wrote a verb (from the long list) on the front and the back of each card. Next, I got a different colour of cardboard and made cards that said 'present, future, past, past participle, my choice, your choice and skip'. Finally, I found a game (Jenga - but you could use connect 4 or any turn taking game) and some whiteboard markers and whiteboards. Each person gets a white board and a marker.
Here are the rules:
1) Turn the cards with the choice of tense upside down so you can't see what is on the cards and shuffle. Place the verb cards in one pile.
2) Workout who will go first and that person chooses a verb card (without seeing all of the cards) and a tense card.
3) The student writes a sentence using the verb in the tense that was written on the card. If the tense card says 'my choice' they can choose the tense, 'your choice' you choose the tense for them, or 'skip' they skip their turn and it is the next person's turn.
4) Once they have written the sentence the teacher checks the sentence and teaches any areas of need (eg. you missed the have/has or this sentence needs an article) and the teacher models the sentence correctly.
5) The student then takes their turn of the game - we played Jenga so the student moved the Jenga piece.
The process is then repeated by the next player (me) until someone wins (doesn't knock the tower down - or if playing connect 4, someone gets 4 in a row).
