I will slowly work on this over the holidays and next year. I aim to post a lot more regularly now that I have returned from maternity leave.
I hope you all continue to check back and get ideas next year. I hope you all have a great summer break!
I am trying to sort out my blog to make it more user friendly. I can only add a search bar if I pay but I have discovered that if I go back and tag each post with a particular category, I can group similar posts.
I will slowly work on this over the holidays and next year. I aim to post a lot more regularly now that I have returned from maternity leave. I hope you all continue to check back and get ideas next year. I hope you all have a great summer break! A while back I posted some Uno cards I had made, as well as the blank Uno card format. Here are two more sets for practising verbs. I use them for teaching verb tense. For whichever tense you choose to focus on, have the students say a sentence to match the picture when they put the card down. They need to get the sentence correct before putting the card down, otherwise they will need to pick up a card from the pile. Eg. They are driving to the shops They will drive to the shops later today. They have driven to the shops. They drove to the shops yesterday. I usually choose only one tense at a time to focus on and all cards must use that same tense.
In an attempt to get my Year 1 writing group to focus on the topic of Christmas and to help build the field of Christmas vocabulary we played a game of Christmas Scategories.
On the board I wrote: 1. Noun - thing 2. Noun - place 3. Noun - person 4. Adjective - 5. Verb - 6. Animal - 7. Food - 8. Song - 9. Colour - 10. Feeling - I then had the students write 1-10 down their page and then explained that I would write the topic at the top. Then they would have some time to think of a word for each number that was about the theme. I explained the scoring would be 1pt for a correct answer and 1pt if no one else had the same answer as you. I then explained what each of the numbers meant and gave examples using a different topic. Then I wrote 'Christmas' at the top of the board and they started writing their answers. It actually became quite competitive with some students trying to think abstractly about the topic. I had a few whispers to me where they described something they did not know the name of and I told them the answer and they wrote it down. We then ended the game and scored our answers. As we went through the answers we discussed what each word meant and how it related to Christmas. We then used these words to write 'Facts and Opinions' about Christmas. Next week we will use those facts and opinions to write about how 'Christmas is the best holiday'. |
