This sheet allows students to predict (using 'I wonder'), summarise (using 'I remember'), locate unknown words and reflect by sharing one thing they didn't know already.
For those who haven't used 'I remember' before, students read a passage and then once they reach the agreed upon stopping point they put up their thumbs and share one thing they remember from what was just read. It can be done as a whole group with one person reading or with everyone reading silently and stopping at the same point. It can also be done in pairs where they sit and face each other and either one person reads aloud or they both read silently and stop at the stopping point then share their 'I remember'. It is key they use the statement 'I remember.....' when they say what they remember.
I wonder is a simple predicting skill. It can be done verbally with students sharing what they wonder about a topic or story prior to it being read - or after it is read if they are reading a chapter book and don't know what is about to happen or if they are going to do further investigation on a topic after they have read an introduction into the topic.
I hope you find the worksheet useful.
